[...] Hint - that’s using a link in the blog post itself. [...]

I'm following attentively Codrut. This strategy is indeed so much fun in doing because it's so simple and little time and effort to implement.

For pinpointing, it is good to use a DoFollow Blog search engine. I have one on my site, though I am not the only dofollow blog search engine.

You are able to type in your keyword and find sites that mention that keyword.... depending on the keyword, you're able to find some decent posts to post on for that pinpointed accuracy you talked about.

I hope that helps you out a little bit...

It is a good thing to see more posts about commenting strategies, especially the ones focussed on what not to do, thanks for that!

Lately I have been deleting quite a lot of comments, I have noticed an increase of traffic coming in from d-lists and you can tell by the way the comment is written that they are only after their own gain. I find that pretty abusive and getting sick of the "great info, signed up for your feed" comments when you just know they haven´t even taking the time to actually read any of the posts.

I have no problem that people are getting linkjuice through my blog, but man, some are lazy dumb *****

@LGR, if the blogger asks readers for links to resources, fine. but I wouldn´t myself put a link to a similiar post of mine in a comment, since I think that comes off as auto-promotion instead of a comment.

You could mention you posted on the same issue recently, and share your opinion, this way adding to the value of the blog. People will find you anyways, posting a direct link however is a bit too pushy in my opinion, and they are more likely going to visit your blog if your comment is attractive and interesting ;)

I mostly agree with you about not placing links in posts, but there are times when it is appropriate. If the post asks for links to resources or if you have a post that is directly related to the post you are commenting on then it can be a good idea. Don't overdue it or the comment will be deleted, but if your comment is good, adds value to the discussion and the link is on topic many bloggers will let it through. I have done some click tracking on my own blog and have noticed when there are links in the comments they are more likely to be clicked that the name.

I think you hit ther nail on the head Codrut, you shouldn't post your site in your comment and you shouldn't put an unrelated site in the proper space. It's so helpful to have you print these pointers for us blog newbies, Codrut. Thanks!
